Firepaw nodded his head cheerfully, "Yeah, that's good. I was worried about suffocating, personally. Doesn't matter, though. Even the air'll smell musty and stuff, we'll be able to breath, and that's good." he was rambling, a sure sign of him being nervous, but Firepaw was really not going to go try and not ramble in this situation. Humans were on their territory, and instead of warning the pack, they were stuck in a hole underground with a little fire and discussing suffocation. Just great.
Firepaw blinked, coming back to the present with only a small jolt. "It's all right, Sesh. You were only trying to clean me off . . . and stuff." the ending was rather lame, but Firepaw was at a loss right then. It had felt very nice to just be together like that, like the rift of their past had been healed, even though it wasn't, and Firepaw had just been happy, in a way he hadn't been in a long time.

Firepaw was rambling. Oh well. Sesh wasn't going to object. She was nervous, too. "There are guards above us; I don't think I can get us out of here and stop them before they shoot, and I don't have the energy to tunnel away." She sighed. "We're trapped; there's no quick way out of here..." Would they be stuck here forever? It didn't actually seem like such a bad idea, if it meant she'd get more time with Firepaw... Of course, she'd starve to death. There was always that to think of...
Yeah, right. We both know that wasn't what we - what I - were doing. But Sesh left that part unsaid; Firepaw clearly didn't want to discuss it, and she didn't really want to, either. I'm not even sure why I did that... She glanced at him awkwardly, remembering how happy she had felt for a moment there, enjoying his touch. His scent worked its way to her nose, and she shivered slightly. He just smelled normal, like... well, like Firepaw, male, fairly young, and slightly burnt, as always. But never before had his scent seemed so alluring...
It took her an effort to draw herself back to the present. For a moment, she'd wanted to just bury herself in his fur. Don't I have enough of his scent plastered all over me already? Another thought struck her. I need to give myself a bath - before I see Fornae again. That would not go well...

Firepaw frowned as she spoke, a memory surging unbidden to his mind. The tunnels under the lake stretched for miles all around it, which game him an idea. There might be a natural tunnel somewhere around here, which might lead to a bigger cave or something... Probably the or something option, but if they were moving, Firepaw could feel like he was doing something. Not that not doing anything was bad, but he wanted to go warn the pack -- Firepaw stopped that thought firmly. His thoughts were not going to ramble at this point as well. "Are there any natural tunnels or something nearby? Maybe we could get out on of those ways and avoid the humans all together? That, or I could fight the humans. If I took enough of them out, you might be able to run and warn the pack that there are humans here?" Just a few ideas that he was bouncing off Sesh. He doubted any of them would work, but again, he needed to feel like he was doing something.
They were close enough together that Firepaw could feel her shiver, even though the cave was getting warmer with each second that the flame flourished. "Are you okay? Should I make the fire hotter or something?" he tilted his head slightly, an effort in their small quarters and grinned at Sesh. She really had matured in the time they'd been apart. She looked like an adult now, beautiful and able to take care of herself. She didn't look like she had when they were young, nor did she act like it, but that wasn't so bad. Firepaw was glad to have her back.

Sesh shook her head. "Fighting the humans would be suicidal. there's too many. Besides, I think they're headed for the camp. If we ran towards it, we'd hit them first." Wait... what did he say? Tunnels? She extended her senses, doubting she'd find anything. Why would there be tunnels here? To her surprise, she realized that it wasn't rock underneath them - they were literally on top of a tunnel. She glanced at him strangely. How did you know that? "We're on top of a tunnel, though. I could drop us in... but I'm not sure what's in it. Might be water, for all I can tell..." Still, it was better than sitting here...
She shook her head again. "No, I'm fine, Firepaw." She wasn't about to explain to him that his scent was messing with her mind, after all. Besides, there wasn't anything he could do about it, so why mention it? And he smelled nice, anyway... There I go again, she thought. Why can't I stay focused?!
She remembered how Fornae had once warned her that Firepaw was dangerous. She still wasn't sure if she agreed with that assessment, but she was sure that, dangerous or not, he was very distracting. She should probably stay away from him. But she knew she wouldn't...

Firepaw shrugged, "If we could warn the rest of the pack--" and if you survived, he added silently, "It would be worth it. If I could fight them off, you could warn them. But I guess you're right..." Firepaw shook himself as she went on, "It's not water. We're too far away from the lake. There might be water in it, but it won't fill the tunnel." he spoke surely, not at all surprised that they were on top of a tunnel.
Firepaw shrugged again, "All right, Sesh." he smiled at her, flicking his ear lazily. "I can warm things up, though, if you do get cold." the flames flickered a little stronger for a few seconds before going back to the strength that Firepaw had started the fire at.

Sesh didn't respond to the first part of what he said. What he was suggesting would be suicide, both for her and for him. She might have a chance, but he wouldn't... and she wouldn't let that happen. She suddenly felt fiercely protective of him, in a way she couldn't understand completely. She just knew she didn't want him to die... but it was more than simply not wanting a packmate - or a friend - to live. It was more like how she felt about Fornae...
She brought herself back to the present, giving Firepaw another curious glance. You don't even seem surprised... and you seem very certain about what you're saying. How would you know so much about tunnels? What are you hiding? But she didn't ask any of the questions that were running through her mind. They all seemed accusatory, and she didn't want to alienate him... "Alright..."
She thought for a moment, then turned her attention back to you. "Really, Firepaw - I'm fine." You're keeping me quite warm as it is... and not all of it is coming from that flame. "I'm going to try and break us through to the tunnel below, then. I don't know how far of a drop it is, so be ready... and if you could keep that light from going out, that'd be nice. I can't see well in the darkness..."

There was hesitation in her voice. Firepaw frowned, silently berating himself about revealing too much, but it didn't matter. Firepaw shook himself, orange eyes gleaming, "The water-filled tunnels are a lot closer to the lake, so we'll have to watch out once we get closer to the lake." Please don't ask how I know this, he begged silently, because you don't want to know, and I'm not sure that I can keep myself from telling you.
Firepaw frowned, "Well, I could try and fly you down so you don't hurt yourself? If we don't know how far down the drop is, it could be dangerous." he paused for a second or two before snorting, "I can keep the flame going easy."

"'Water-filled tunnels'?" repeated Sesh questioningly. "Firepaw, how in the name of Spirit Pack do you know any of this?! You're not earth aligned, or even water aligned! How would you know about tunnels I haven't even found myself?" Well, she hadn't ever though there might be tunnels around, so she hadn't looked... but still. Firepaw's abilities shouldn't enable him to know these things...
She shook her head. Why did you have to remind me I can't fly? Still, he hadn't meant anything by it. "Firepaw, the tunnel is directly beneath us. To reach it, I'm going to have to knock the floor out from under us. And you couldn't carry me - I'm the same size as you are. Far too heavy for you to lift." He's worried about me, she realized. Her voice softened. "I'll be fine, Firepaw... now, are you ready?"

Firepaw winced, recoiling from her words. I told you not to ask... "It's a long story, Sesh. I'll tell you one day..." One day when you won't hate me for what I've done.. Firepaw sighed, "But the water-filled will be dangerous. We will have to look out for them, and I'm pretty sure that I will not be able to navigate through the tunnels. I've never entered from here, after all."
"I don't need to lift you, just slow the fall enough that you won't hurt yourself hitting the ground." he was arguing uselessly, because he knew that Sesh wouldn't let him, but he wanted to help. "Plus, I'm stronger than I was before." He examined Sesh, nudging her shoulder with his muzzle a second later.
"Just be careful when we fall, okay?" he nodded, "But I'm ready."

Sesh glared at him for a second, angry that he was keeping secrets from her. Then his obvious discomfort overcame her anger, and she nodded. "Alright. But when we get out of this, you have a lot of explaining to do..." If we get out of this would have been more accurate, she thought. But she wasn't going to admit that, even to herself...
She shook her head again. "Yeah, you're stronger. And I'm bigger and heavier, too. You'd probably break a wing trying to carry me..." She smiled softly. "But thanks for caring, Firepaw." She leaned forward and licked him quickly on the cheek. Just in case we don't get out of here...
"Brace yourself," she warned. Then she extended her senses through the ground, found the nearest fault in the floor beneath them, and opened it.
She couldn't stop herself from letting out a startled squeak as the floor collapsed beneath them and she tumbled into darkness...
