Sesh shot him a curious glance. Why did he sound awkward? And why did it seem like he was trying to avoid her? She shrugged. She was probably just over-interpretting. "So how have you been doing without-" me? She cut herself off before saying that, instead adjusting her sentence. "I mean, how have you been the past season?"
She took another bite, chewed, and swallowed, then stepped back a pace, full. She sat down and began to wash her face; she could tell there was quite a bit of blood stuck to her fur. "Mmmm... that was good..."

Firepaw flicked an ear as he settled back to eating. Hopefully she wouldn't pry any further. For some reason, he felt uncomfortable discussing Breeze with Sesh, and Firepaw didn't feel like figuring out why. Some stones were best left unturned. At least now, Sunny was gone. Yes, he still haunted Firepaw, but at least he was gone. A ghost was better than Sunny himself standing there.
Her words startled Firepaw, and the half finished first question hung in the air for a second or two before she posed a new one, one that Firepaw could properly reply to. "I've been doing well . . . I guess." at first, he'd been really cut up about it, but time healed all wounds. He'd gotten his fighting spirit back, though, and he'd learned something from it. Sharra was right; trusting wolves could hurt you badly.
And he could at least say that by now, he'd learned not to put all of his eggs in one basket. He had Icepelt back and he had Breeze now, too. He would no longer depend entirely on Sesh, which would be far better for both himself and for her.
"Yeah, that was." he agreed a few seconds after she spoke, taking a few steps back from the kill. He'd eaten enough to let him feel full for a good while, and now he had to clean himself as well. He could tell that blood stained his fur as well. This kill hadn't exactly been clean.

Sesh glanced at him again before returning to her washing. What had happened to the talkative Firepaw she had known? Now he seemed to want to brush her off, or at least he disliked questions... I suppose that's partly my fault. I probably hurt him just as much as he hurt me... She sighed, pawing the ground uncertainly. So much had gone wrong this past season... and none of it was easy to fix.
She finished her washing, watching Firepaw for a moment. Then she padded over to him on an impulse, and gave his forehead a few quick licks. "You're a complete mess, you know," she teased, betraying nothing of her nervousness. Spirit Pack, what am I doing?

Entirely distracted from Sesh's presence, he'd nearly forgotten she was there as they cleaned their fur in companionable silence. He hadn't quite managed to forget her, though, and with the amount of blood that stained his fur, he was going to be spending quite a while cleaning himself off.
Swift pawsteps alerted him to Sesh's approach, and he glanced up as she licked his forehead. Firepaw jolted slightly at the thouch of her tongue before he warmed to her touch. They were friends now - this shouldn't be strange, not anymore. "Really?" Firepaw snorted "It was a messy kill, though, so I shouldn't really be surprised. Anyways, thanks, Sesh." he grinned at her wolfishly, his tail thumping lightly against the ground.

Sesh felt him jolt under her tongue, and for a moment she thought he might pull away. Part of her wanted him to; she'd be embarrassed, but at least she wouldn't feel so... strange. But another part of her was desperately hoping he wouldn't mind... and it was strong enough to worry her. But Firepaw relaxed before she could decide anything; clearly, he didn't mind. She wasn't sure whether to be glad or not...
She pulled back for a moment. "You're welcome; besides, if you let this dry, your fur will be matted for a month..." Why am I justifying this to myself? She leaned forward again, starting to lick his cheek. It's faster this way, she reasoned. Washing her own face always took longer if she did it herself, after all... Of course, his cheek isn't very messy in the first place. So why am I doing this?

Firepaw grinned, leaning forward to swipe his tongue across Sesh's forehead. "It's good to have you back." he said with a small smile, his tail thumping lazily against the ground. He really was, and he'd really missed her. It had been lonely without her, even if Breeze mostly managed to distract him from it. She'd been his crutch for a good while, though, and he knew that even though Sesh didn't like Breeze much, he wouldn't be able to get rid of her.
Her tongue swiped across his cheek, and Firepaw could feel his skin tingling where she'd touched him. "Yeah, you're right. Thanks again." he grinned, touching his tail against her flank, before pulling it back a second later. It was strange, this new awkwardness with her, and he wasn't sure if he liked it or not...

Sesh squirmed happily under Firepaw's tongue. That feels so nice! she thought. I wonder if he feels the same way when I lick him? She considered asking him for a second, but decided that would sound ridiculous. Instead, she nuzzled up against him. "It's good to be back... Firepaw," she replied, saying his name softly, a strange note in her voice that she didn't fully understand herself.
She adjusted her position slightly, starting to lick his other cheek. At least this one actually needed cleaning. She met his gaze for a moment. "Anytime, Firepaw," she murmured. She felt his tail touch her flank, and shivered with delight. When he pulled his tail back, her tail followed it, and she wrapped her tail around his, not fully realizing she was doing it. She just felt... happy...

Firepaw smiled, "I missed you, Sesh." he murmured, his voice catching in his throat, and coming out with a more tender note than he could've ever expected. This was so strange, but he didn't want to change it. Besides, he wasn't sure he could. He had no inclination to, anyways.
Her tongue brushed against his other cheek, and Firepaw leaned unconsciously into her touch, feeling her tail wrap around his. He really ought to move now, but he didn't want to. This was bliss, perfection, even.
He missed the approach of pawsteps, though, missed the appearance of a wolf who looked over the two of them coldly. "Tranq them." Hado spoke coldly, and he gestured sharply in Firepaw and Sesh's direction. A gun was leveled to point in their direction...

He sounds strange, Sesh thought, but he doesn't seem awkward anymore. I don't feel awkward, either... The part of her mind thinking that seemed strangely detached from the rest of her. She was content. Content and happy, here with Firepaw. She nuzzled him gently. "I missed you so much, Firepaw..." she murmured softly. This feels so right... I could stay here forever, and be happy. Maybe more than happy...
She licked him again, feeling him leaning into her touch. He was enjoying this... and so was she. I don't ever want to stop, she thought. Then, suddenly, she went rigid. She could barely scent anything but Firepaw... but she still smelled another wolf nearby. And... humans!
When she heard the other wolf speak, she immediately knew something was wrong. Then she heard an ominous click... and dived on top of Firepaw before the human - humans? - could shoot, diving through the earth and hiding them under it. Then she hit her head on a rock, and everything went blurry...

Okay. This was getting awkward. He just didn't feel like moving. He liked the feeling of her touch, of her breath stirring his fur. "So did I, Sesh, so did I..." He really had. Time might heal all wounds, but it had been hard at first, it still was hard, but in the end, he would only be stronger because of it. That didn't mean that he didn't enjoy this, but it was strange. Strange, and yet, he liked it...
Things evolved rapidly from that. A wolf spoke in a cold voice, there was a click, and suddenly, there was Sesh on top of him and earth all around him. He would've panicked, but he knew Sesh wouldn't have killed them. At least if he died, though, he died with Sesh.
"uh... Sesh?"
-
Hado watched calmly as the earth female burrowed beneath the ground. They would not stay there forever. After a quick series of gestures, the humans understood what he wanted, and there was a semi-circle of guards surrounding the place where they had disappeared into with guns pointed. They were going to die.

Sesh's vision was spinning. Or maybe not. In fact, she couldn't see a thing. Am I blind? she wondered. Then she realized that she couldn't see anything because there wasn't any light. Wait, what happened? Then she heard Firepaw calling her name, and she remembered.
She tried to speak, but found there was something covering her face. Come to think of it, there was something on top of her. It took her a moment to realize she was feeling feathers over her face; she was feeling one of Firepaw's wings. So he must be on top of her... she did feel rather squished, and she was lying on her back, rather uncomfortably.
She managed to move her head so she could speak, though it still came out muffled. "Uh, Firepaw, would you mind getting off me?"
While she waited for him to move, she looked around her. Well, it wasn't exactly looking. She couldn't see anything, of course. She just extended her senses...
They were in a small cave, only a few feet under the ground. It wasn't large enough for two adult wolves, but the two of them hadn't finished growing yet. Still, it was going to be cramped... and there wasn't enough space to stand, either.
For a moment, she was worried about suffocating. Then she remembered that she'd made tiny air shafts, like she always did when she went underground. It was second nature to her; she'd done it without thinking...
Above them, she could feel several humans. They must realize we have to come out eventually... and they're right. But where did they come from? Sesh frowned, thinking. And why didn't I notice them? Then she remembered what she'd been doing. Oh, spirits, why did I do that? It seemed so... silly now...

There was air stirring his feathers. That was strange. Firepaw frowned, trying to wriggle away, but there wasn't much room. His other wing clipped a wall, making clods of dirt fall from the cave's roof. Hastily, he folded against his side and kept wriggling until Sesh's voice reached.
"I'm trying!" his voice was slightly strained and high. He was obviously nervous, and he didn't bother hiding it. They might've just made up, but they were friends. She'd understand.
...Probably.
"Sorry. Didn't mean to snap." Firepaw kept wriggling, until he found his face pressed against the cave wall.
Ugh...
This was so not going to go well. And he doubted they were getting out any time soon. Sesh didn't sound so good. But at least now he could get the wing that was on her face back against his side so that it wasn't covering her nose.
"Better?" he questioned, wrinkling his nose slightly.
How had they ended up down here? Using Sesh's earth powers, obviously, but how had he missed the approach of the humans?
Oh, yeah...
What had he been doing?
More importantly, what had Sesh been doing?
This was so confusing...

Sesh relaxed as she felt Firepaw moving off her, though his pelt was still pressed against hers. That was understandable; there wasn't enough room in this cave - or whatever it was. Sesh rolled over, so that she was no longer uncomfortably on her back. "It's ok, Firepaw," she replied, not offended. He was nervous; so was she. After all, they'd just been attacked by humans in their own territory, when there weren't supposed to be any humans at all around here...
Sesh turned to face Firepaw, then grimaced when she saw nothing. "Could you make some light, please?" she asked. "A smokeless flame or something?" He could probably do that; besides, most of his fire abilities didn't produce much smoke, anyway...

Firepaw exhaled in relief, "Thanks, Sesh." he shifted to move his weight away from Sesh with a small smile, even though he knew it was fruitless. He just didn't want to crush her - that would be kind of stupid, wouldn't it? Firepaw sighed, his eyes drifting shut. It wasn't like it made much of a difference in this darkness.
Sesh jolted him back to life, "Oh, right, a light!" Firepaw grinned sheepishly, carefully creating a fire just before his paws, illuminating the gloom and not sending off a bit of smoke. He wasn't sure how he'd managed to do it, but he had. "Anyways, fire needs oxygen, so if there aren't any ways for air to circulate, we're both dead." he glanced in Sesh's direction, and was startled to see just how small the cave was.

Sesh tried to make herself more comfortable, but there really wasn't anywhere she could move to. Already, she was brushing up against Firepaw in several places, and she couldn't get any farther away. So unless she wanted to throw herself onto him... Well, that would definitely be a bad idea. Oh well. I can live with being uncomfortable...
She blinked rapidly as Firepaw made a small flame, blinding her for a second. "There's plenty of routes for air to get in; we don't need to worry about that." The fire illuminated everything strangely, and she watched the flickering light pass over Firepaw's face. His eyes were huge, due to the darkness. It made him look so different... But I probably look like that, too...
Then she realized how warm it was getting. It wasn't unpleasant, just unexpected. Though she should have expected it; fires produced heat, after all. And Firepaw always radiated some heat from him, though never enough to do more than warm those near him. It certainly didn't feel bad when I was- Sesh stopped herself, and looked at the ground awkwardly. "Firepaw... I'm sorry about... well, you know. I don't know what got into me..." And if I hadn't been doing that, we would've noticed the humans. That part went unsaid, but it was clearly implied by her words. Why was I so stupid? she wondered.
And why did I enjoy it?
