It was strange to hear her change her mind so swiftly. She'd hated him for moons for what he'd done, and now she was saying that it wasn't his fault? This was confusing, but Firepaw tried not to show it. "I just . . . " he wasn't sure what he wanted to say, considering how it would pale in comparison to anything she might say.
He jumped as she licked his cheek, but he tilted his head to the side as he felt a warm tingling feeling spread through him. "uh... you're welcome?" his voice was soft and unsure. Things had changed since that fight, he could tell. The ground had shifted from beneath his feet, and he'd spent so much time trying to keep standing, that he hadn't noted everyone that he loved changing (metaphors are fun. x3).
"Of course we are!" Firepaw grinned happily.

Sesh just smiled at him. He couldn't seem to speak for a second there... but then she was having trouble finding words, as well. Heck, she was confusing herself so much, it was no surprise she was confusing him. She wasn't quite sure whether she was confusing herself, for that matter, or if it was just him causing it. She pondered that for a second, then decided she didn't care...
Sesh grinned cheerfully. "Great!" She pushed the memories of their fight behind her, trying to forget about it. They could start anew now, friends once again... She paused for a moment. Now what? They'd made up and were friends again... so what should they do now? "Want to go hunting?" she asked. She was still hungry, after all. A good hunt with Firepaw would be fun, too. Besides, Firepaw was acting rather strangely. Maybe this would get him back to normal...

Firepaw grinned happily. Yes, it was great. He'd missed her. Things would never be the same again, but he was glad that they were friends again. He regretted what he'd done, but what he'd done had been necessary, and Firepaw was glad she'd seen it.
Hunting. Right, hunting. Yeah, he was kinda hungry. And he couldn't exactly say no. "Hunting would be nice!" he agreed happily, flicking his ear, "Yeah, we might as well hunt." his stomach grumbled as he spoke, and Firepaw snorted.

Sesh laughed. "You sound like you're starving!" she teased. Strange how easy it was for her to fall into her old rhythm with him. She felt completely relaxed already, just like she had before... yet things weren't quite the same. Something was subtly different, though she couldn't place it...
It didn't matter. She shook herself, ridding herself of troublesome thoughts, and sniffed the air. If the two of them were hunting together, they would need something big, like a deer, or maybe a young elk. She frowned, not smelling anything. But the wind was blowing from behind her, back from the direction of the camp, so that wasn't too unusual. "Hm..."
She extended her senses through the earth, try to sense something nearby. At first, she sensed nothing, but then she got the impression of a large animal towards her right, not that far away. Probably an elk, from the size. "Come on - there's one this way!" She still didn't smell anything, but her sense of smell wasn't as good as others. Firepaw would probably notice it already, though. It wasn't far, anyway...

Firepaw grinned, "I am starving. Do you know how long's it been since I've eaten?" Not that long, but he was hungry. Like, really hungry. All this confusion made him hungry. Yeah, he really was hungry. His stomach rumbled again as he thought, and Firepaw snorted.
"Yeah?" He tilted his head to examine Sesh as she commented 'hmm'. It had startled him when she spoke, but he'd mostly managed to concentrate it on watching Sesh. He'd missed her.
Firepaw jolted back to the present as Sesh spoke, "Okay, I'm right behind ya!" He sniffed the air vigorously, and detected a vague scent of prey-animal. The breeze blew back towards camp, but it wasn't all that brisk, so he could smell it well enough. Well, kinda, anyways.

"No," replied Sesh cheerfully. "But unless you're going to drop dead of hunger before we catch something, it's not that important, is it?" She was teasing him, admittedly, enjoying playing with everything he said. She couldn't help it. It was great to have him back again, just like before...
Well, no, not really. Sesh had changed over the past few months, and so had Firepaw. He was bigger now, of course, though she was still around the same size as him. He seemed stronger, as if he'd been training a lot, as well. And there was something missing, something she couldn't place for a second before she realized what it was. Firepaw didn't seem... innocent any more. Before, he'd been easygoing and carefree. Now, he was still like that... but only on the outside. Not all the way through, like before. He was more serious now, more responsible. It was like something inside him had finally woken up. He seemed more like a future leader every day...
I'm not sure if I like the change, either, reflected Sesh. I liked things the way they were... but things change, I guess. She snorted. I guess I've been watching him more than I realized, to know all this. But then again, I never could quite push thoughts of him out of my head...
She jerked herself back to the present. They were hunting; time enough for thinking later. She flicked her ears, acknowledging that she'd heard Firepaw, then dashed off ahead, curving slightly to her right. It was an easy tactic, one known by every pup before they even reached a summer old, generally used when she couldn't tell quite where her prey was. She hadn't used it much lately, though, because it required another wolf to mirror it on the other side, trapping the prey between them. But with Firepaw, it would be easy...
She grinned happily. It was good to be back...

"Ya never know," Firepaw commented, "I might just drop dead of hunger soon." he snorted to himself, flicking his ear as he stretched, his back cracking.
He was glad he didn't have to think right then. Thinking was fine most of the time, but being with Sesh wasn't most of the time, and he wanted to enjoy every single second of it. Thinking subtracted from that experience when he could just use instincts and focus on Sesh.
Firepaw noted the direction that she was running it, and mirrored it; running with a slight curve to the left to trap the prey between them. Things were almost like normal, but he couldn't really remember the last time he'd gone hunting with the pack. Mostly, he hunted alone, which he enjoyed, but hunting with Sesh was fun, too.
That wasn't so bad, was it? Maybe this was what he'd been missing out on, when he'd been hunting alone. Companionship. (gee, imagine that. *sarcastic) He'd missed talking with others, sharing his kills, but it wasn't worth it. No one really liked him enough - stupid Sunny. It was all his fault - to hunt with him, but, for the most part, Firepaw didn't mind. It was only at times like this, when he missed having other wolves with him and around him that he wanted to work with others.

Sesh grinned, but didn't reply; talking in the middle of a hunt was generally a bad idea. Besides, it distracted her, and that was bad, as well...
At least Firepaw seemed to know exactly what he was doing, mirroring her moves precisely. We work well together...
She turned slightly, closing the gap between them. The elk had to be around here somewhere... Suddenly, it smashed through the bushes in front of her, running in panic. She frowned for a half-second. What was it running from? It shouldn't be running towards its hunters...
Then she forgot about it and threw herself onto the elk, biting at its legs. Knock it down, and it would be an easy kill...
Of course, she could have just killed it instantly with her abilities, but that would make her more tired, and if Firepaw did it, the meat would end up burnt, and that only tasted half as good. Besides, where was the fun in that?

Firepaw moved to narrow the gap, hoping to catch up to the elk sooner rather than later - he was rather hungry, after all, he hadn't been kidding about that. His stomach grumbled again, but Firepaw paid it little heed, instead, he picked up his pace, until he was moving faster than he had been before, despite beginning to feel the achy tiredness creeping up his legs, and it took a bit more effort with each step he took.
That was all shoved aside, however, as he spotted the elk, which was running in a panic, right towards Sesh. He picked up the pace - at least now he knew vaguely where Sesh was, and he could worry less about running over her.
Now his issue was to take care of the elk and make sure it didn't hurt her. Firepaw bared his fangs and poured more power into his muscles, until he'd nearly caught up with it.
Firepaw spotted Sesh. She wasn't crushed yet, but at the rate this terrified elk was going, it wouldn't be long. She needed to get out of the way so that he could stop running at the elk's heels and just get the stupid animal down and out. He wasn't going to jump for the elk's heels while she was still there.
Wait, what was she doing? Jumping for the elk's lower legs herself? That was not good, she could get crushed by the falling elk.
...Of course, she could take care of herself, Firepaw reminded himself. He needed to remember that now that they were friends again.

Sesh clamped her jaws shut on the elk's left hindleg, biting deeply. It tried to kick her, but she managed to avoid it, hanging on stubbornly. It was throwing her all around, but couldn't get her off. And still it was running... Woah... something's seriously got it panicked, and it's not just me, thought Sesh. Then she discarded that thought as another, more disturbing, one came to her. This is rather dangerous - if I get hit by one of those hooves, it'd break bones. So why the heck am I enjoying this?!
Finally, Sesh let go, flying through the air a few feet before landing softly on the ground. She wasn't above using her powers to give her a soft landing; besides, she wouldn't even notice that small of an energy loss. In the mean time, the deer stumbled and fell, as she had nearly bitten off its hindleg. She jumped back to her feet, unharmed, and dashed towards it again. She was enjoying herself... and besides, now that it was on the ground, it was basically dead. Though one of those hooves could still be a problem, if she wasn't careful...

Sesh jumped at the elk, and Firepaw winced. Jeez, he'd just gotten back to being friends with her, and she was off doing stupid things again. Couldn't she see that the elk was freaked out? Jumping on it and scaring it more was not a good idea. Bad ideas were his job to enact, anyways. But there wasn't exactly room for Firepaw to jump on the elk along with Sesh, and she seemed to have this covered, didn't she?
Of course, then she was flying through the air, and the elk buckled towards the ground, its hind leg nearly chewed straight through, but it was still thrashing vigorously when Firepaw jumped onto it, sinking his fangs into its neck. This was his job - doing dangerous and stupid things was definitely his job, and besides, Sesh was already running forward again.

Sesh slowed down as she reached the elk, seeing that Firepaw's bite to the neck had killed it. "Nice kill!" she said, grinning and panting slightly. It'd been far too long since she had some good exercise with a friend around...
The juicy smell of elk meat made its way to her nostrils, and her stomach growled hungrily. She laughed. "Come on, let's eat!" She sat down and started tearing at the elk, eating hungrily. This one had still been young, and had plenty of juicy meat... "Mmmm..." It seemed to taste like some of the best she'd ever had, though she knew she'd seen much better prey. But with a friend around, it made it taste so much better...

Firepaw grinned at the praise, "Thanks, Sesh." he grinned again, scooting back a few steps so that she could eat first. Yeah, he was hungry but he didn't mind letting Sesh eat first. He'd always let Breeze eat first, after all, and Sesh had been his friend first. She deserved the same things he'd given Breeze.
He waited until she started eating before he settled in himself, his fangs sinking into the meat and tearing at it hungrily. He settled against the ground with a small smile, and flicked his ear as a fly settled on it. This really was a good elk, young and juicy and tender. He was perfectly happy to gnaw on the elk and watch Sesh. How long had it been since they'd talked?
Too long...
Breeze was no substitute for Sesh, no matter how good of friends the two might be - which wasn't all that good, but Firepaw still wanted to be friends with her - and he'd really missed Sesh.

Sesh noticed he held back for a moment, and was about to ask him why, but then he stepped forward and began eating as well, and she realized he had just been being polite. She smiled softly to herself; generally, wolves didn't worry about courtesy and all that until they were older; the younger wolves tended to view such things as tedious. But Firepaw did it anyway, apparently. He seemed almost... noble.
What an odd term, Sesh thought. I never thought I'd use that to describe him. He never seemed like that kind of wolf... Still, she liked the change; she had worried before about Firepaw. He had always seemed slightly... dark, as if there was something underneath...
She pushed those thoughts away as she continued eating, chewing the elk's liver. The salty tang of blood was mixed with the sweeter flavors of the other juices and the slightly-spicy taste of the meat itself. The meat was tender, coming apart easily as she sank her teeth into it. She sighed with contentment, thinking that she'd never eaten anything that tasted so good...
She took a bite of the haunch, chewed it, and swallowed, savoring the flavor. "So, Firepaw," she asked between bites, "how are you and Breeze getting along? You two have been rather close the past few months..." She was just making small talk, but still, it was something she was interested in. After all, Firepaw seemed to be friends with Breeze, and if Sesh and Firepaw were friends again, then she'd probably have to at least tolerate the other female, no matter how much she disliked her...

Firepaw gnawed absently along the elk's leg, his thoughts quiet. He was perfectly happy just eating, his teeth moving mechanically along, and the blood warming his stomach nicely. He was not quite as hungry anymore, and with every bite he took, that hunger that gnawed at his belly faded away. The sharp pangs that he'd been experiencing earlier were nearly gone, which made him snort in laughter. His thoughts were getting poetic with Sesh near. It was almost as bad with Breeze, but at least with Breeze he wasn't trying to prove anything to her. She didn't force herself on him, and he didn't try and impress her half as much. Oh well. It wasn't the time to dwell on the past, instead it was time to watch the future...
He was jolted from his thoughts when Sesh spoke. "We're getting along all right..." he answered, flicking his ear awkwardly. What was she asking him for, anyways? She was his friend, that ought to be enough after what she did to him . . . That didn't make the question any less awkward and probing, though.
